C2: Alternative Services is a consulting firm serving local government and business clients with programs to enhance environmental performance. We are based in Northern California. Since our inception in 1994, we have been known for our hands-on style, flexibility and innovation. Our environmental education and outreach programs are designed to foster positive behavior change.

We use principles of Community-Based Social Marketing to identify barriers and develop messages that resonate with their intended target audiences. We are fortunate to have relationships with local government clients for whom we develop and manage programs over many years. We also enjoy shorter-term projects to address specific needs.

Our innovative projects include one-to-one outreach with populations as diverse as boaters, commercial food businesses, 4-wheel drive enthusiasts, multi-family residents, and adult students of ESL (English as a Second Language). We have developed programs on many topics such as recycling, proper disposal of used motor oil and other household hazardous wastes, green building, and watershed protection.
Services
Chris has been recycling since before recycling was cool.
He hauled recyclables from commercial businesses as an independent operator long before trash haulers began providing such services, and has been a member of the National Recycling Coalition since 1982, and the Northern California Recycling Association since 1988.
In addition to managing C2 projects, Chris is active in community volunteer work.
He serves on the Community Advisory Board for the City of Santa Rosa, and has been involved in the City's Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, Food Matters in Sonoma County, the Redwood Empire Chapter of the Green Building Council, Recourse Mediation Services, and the North Bay Consensus Council.
Successful waste reduction and recycling programs require adequate infrastructure, clear communication, and ongoing attention.
C2: Alternative Services offers assistance with all of these elements.
The publication "Establishing a Waste Reduction Program at Work" which we co-authored for the California Integrated Waste Management Board several years ago, explicates many of our techniques.
Large institutions such as our initiation of a major recycling program at the San Francisco War Memorial and Performing Arts Center.
