NBSWMD is s collaboration of a 13 member municipalities within Western Massachusetts providing information and resources pertaining to recycling with ultimate goal of preserving the planet. Northern Berkshire Solid Waste Management District works with a wide range of environmentally friendly service providers. Their knowledge and professionalism help the district uphold the highest standards of meeting state compliance.

Thank you for all you do! Do you have worn clothing, outdated electronics or other items that don't belong in your household recycling bin? Don't throw them away.

The Northern Berkshire Solid Waste Management District was established in 1988 through legislation passed by the Massachusetts General Court.
You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you.
What you do makes a difference and you have to decide what kind of a difference you want to make.
It's been quoted by a collogue, "It's been a couple years since Linda Cernik was anointed "Queen of Recycling", succeeding Sandy Totter, Recycling Lady extraordinaire.
Linda has some rather large shoes to fill and she has done very well indeed~ said Bryan O'Grady, Director Williamston Council on Aging.

If your town doesn't offer a recycling program that you may need please call Linda Cernik, NBSWMD, Program Coordinator.
Some of the recycling programs are shared services within the district.
Offered in the towns of Cheshire, Hancock, Hinsdale, Savoy, Williamstown as well as special collection events.

Composting is a great way to recycle our organic "waste" into a beneficial soil amendment for our yards and gardens.
Composting at home can also help reduce methane production at landfills.
Using the compost in our landscapes helps store carbon in the soil instead of releasing it to the atmosphere.
And you can reduce your trash by 50 percent or more by composting leaves, grass clippings, garden debris, fruit peels, vegetable scraps, tea bags, coffee grounds, egg shells, paper towels, napkins and even paper bags.
