The Marquette County Landfill is owned by the municipalities of Marquette County, supervised by an appointed Board of Trustees, and overseen by the Authority Director. The Landfill offers many waste disposal and recycling services to Marquette County residents, including drop-off recycling, household hazardous waste collections and a drug take back program.

Utilizing a balanced sustainable-economic approach, extending the life of the Marquette County Landfill is our goal. Environmental protection, health and safety of our staff, licensed haulers, and the general public is paramount.

The Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority works collectively and advocates partnerships with its constituent municipalities. The Marquette County Solid Waste Management Authority shall set solid waste management policy and solid waste system implementation in consultation with the Marquette County Board of Commissioners and the Marquette County Planning Commission.
Services
The Authority was established in 1988; at that time unlicensed and unlined landfills dominated the Upper Peninsula.
State efforts to close these landfills prompted local communities to cooperatively develop state of the art waste management systems.
All of Marquette County's 22 constituent municipalities are now members of the Authority.
The Authority operates under terms specified in an Intergovernmental Agreement and it's bylaws.
Note: Please contact an asbestos abatement contractor if you suspect any waste may contain asbestos.
All haulers must obtain a landfill permit from the municipality which they are hauling asbestos.
If hauling asbestos from more than one municipality; the hauler must obtain a landfill permit from each municipality.
In order to dispose of asbestos, haulers must have an asbestos manifest.
When a hauler arrives at the landfill; park the vehicle on the scale #1 and enter the office to be weighed.
Scale attendant will weigh the truck; provide the hauler an asbestos form, directions, and any other required instructions.
Building or structure to be demolished or renovated built prior to 1981 requires an asbestos survey by an accredited asbestos abatement company.
If building, structure, or materials within contain asbestos they must be abated prior to demolition or renovation.
ACM from a residential demolition or renovation must be disposed in accordance with asbestos delivery policy.
Mercury containing devices (thermostats/CFL's) must be removed prior to disposal of demolition or renovation materials.
A landfill permit must be obtained from the municipality in which the structure is located.
Conditionally exempt small quantity generator (CESQG) - generators of less than 100 kg/mo.
The classification is based on how much hazardous waste is generated in a month and accumulated on-site.
Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generators (CESQG) generate 100 kilograms or less per month of hazardous waste, or 1 kilogram or less per month of acutely hazardous waste.
CESQGs must ensure that hazardous waste is delivered to a person or facility who is authorized to manage it.
Small Quantity Generators (SQG) generate more than 100 kilograms, but less than 1,000 kilograms, of hazardous waste per month.
